I saw a display similar to the one above at my local mama/baby/maternity boutique, Waddle N Swaddle, on Tuesday.
My first reaction, “Oooh- these are pretty necklaces! What are they doing in here?”
The sales associate came over and mentioned that these are teething necklaces and bracelets that mommies can wear.
Interesting.
I don’t know how I feel about these.
I did some research on these “teething necklaces” and came across “Chewbeads“. They were created by a fashion veteran mama whose baby loved to put everything in his mouth. So, she “set out to create soft, non-toxic jewelry, which was colorful, chic and, above all else safe. Hence, Chewbeads!”
I’m a bit torn with the teething aspect of this jewelry- here’s why:
Imagine- I buy one of these necklaces (pink or maybe mint colored) for Sophia to help soothe her teething discomfort, and it works! She loves it! What happens when I put on a different necklace or if Sophia gets a little older and wants to chew on my J.Crew inspired Fan fringe necklace??
To her, it’s something that is around my neck that I allowed her to chew on.
I can only imagine she will become frustrated and upset. Who wants an upset baby?
*These are my initial thoughts on this product. I do hope to review it and share my experience in a future post.
