While doing a quick makeup demonstration on my FB LIVE, Sophia asked if she could play with the play dough Brayden took out of the spare room.
RED ALERT!
RED ALERT!
PLAY DOUGH IS NOT GLUTEN FREE!
I told her “No” because mommy needs to find out how to make it gf.
Then BOOM, one of my lovely followers sent me a pin via Pinterest and I was in business.
Sophia’s cousin Anthony stopped by and played along with us! |
I was really quite surprised how easy peasy this play dough was to make. It’s gluten free and edible, too! Both Sophia and Brayden played with it for hours.
So here’s what you’ll need:
1 Cup of Baby rice cereal
3 Tablespoons of Vegetable Oil
1 Cup of Cornstarch
1/2 Cup of Applesauce (water can be used to substitute)
Gluten Free Food coloring (optional)
Here’s what you need to do…
In a large mixing bowl, combine the baby rice cereal and cornstarch.
Mix it up good.
Add cup applesauce, vegetable oil and any food coloring (if desired).
Mix it up really good.
Knead the dough by hand(your hands can become colorful) or you can use a Kitchenaid. Do this until it becomes smooth.
**If dough is sticky, slowly add more baby rice cereal until stickiness goes away.
***If dough is dry and cracking, run your hands under the faucet and knead the dough with your wet hands.
Store the dough in a ziplock bag or sealed container in the refrigerator for a few days before throwing it out. Be sure to make sure it’s not moldy or funky smelling before you use it 🙂
The dough will be stiff once taken out of the refrigerator. Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes then wet your hands and knead it so it becomes pliable again!
There you have it!
Edible, gluten free play dough!
Who would have thought gluten was in play dough? Not me, but that’s alright.. This concoction, adapted by Fun at Home with Kids, is a great and safe alternative for our princess!
